So I have fallen in love with a toad and his name is Clark. This is unusual behavior for me because I am not a reptile girl; I don't like snakes, I don't pick up lizards, etc. What happened was that over time I noticed this same little guy visiting my front doorstep every night like clockwork. I always know when he's gonna be there; I can always pick him up and he's never done anything weird or scary. I step outside to visit with him every night; I know where he hides during the day and what can I say--I've grown very fond of him.

I Googled "how to keep a wild toad as a pet" and it was complicated. If you keep them for more than 2 weeks they will develop a certain bacteria that can spread to other amphibians and kill them. So..I Googled "How to keep a wild toad as an outside pet" and I found instructions for building a fancy outdoor habitat. I was sharing these instructions with Mark tonight and his response went like this:

"So let me try to understand want to be able to see this toad every day; you want him to live outside; you want him to find his own food, and you don't want to have to worry about bacteria."

Me: "Yes!"
