Cake & Friendship

Not sure if I'm blogging about friendship or food tonight..maybe a little of both. So I have lived in this neighborhood for 8 months now and while I have met several nice ladies, there is one in particular that I felt an instant comfort with. It's one of those things that's hard to put into words but I just know that I immediately liked her, was very much at ease and felt natural being myself. Now this girl (who I will respectfully keep anonymous) is way smarter than me and has a very big career, so getting together is not the easiest thing. After months of discussion, planning and re-scheduling, the planets aligned and we were were able to have a girl's lunch today at an old favorite in Athens called The Grit. This place has been open for over 20 years serving delicious vegetarian fare. We both had their 3 vegetable plate followed by a slice of their organic dark chocolate cake. YUM! I will be dreaming about this meal tonight! Our conversation flowed so easily that it was truly hard to end the lunch and return to our busy days. As we walked out of the restaurant she said to me, "I just love being around you--I enjoy you so much" to which I replied with sincere emotion, "I feel the exact same way about you!" Let's face it--we need girlfriends! And I don't even know that we need many, but when you cliche with the right one it truly fills your heart! I don't care how often I get to see her; I'm just happy that she's in my life. So tonight I am grateful for The Grit, fabulous chocolate cake and a great girlfriend. Life is good!
