A Small Price To Pay..

We have been talking a lot at church lately about helping out, volunteering and giving to others in need. Our Pastor has offered up a variety of ways to get involved..volunteering at local shelters, mentoring a child, donating to the Clean Water Fund or...sponsoring a child. So today after church we were looking at the brochures from the World Vision Organization. I was considering sponsoring "a" child when all 3 of my kids walked up to me with brochures. Jake picked out a 10 year old boy; Will picked out an 8 year old girl and Laine picked out a 3 year old girl (with help from her brothers.) I asked the representative what it would cost to sponsor a child and he said $35 a month. Yikes..that means $105 a month to sponsor 3 kids. But I looked at my children's faces and I heard the yearning in their voices to give. And isn't this what Christmas giving should be about? We had a quick family meeting to figure out where we were gonna come up with the extra hundred dollars each month. The kids said they would forgo snacks & gatorades when we run to the store. I said I would give up my iPhone. This is big for me, and I know it sounds petty but I LOVED my iPhone!! (Just ask any of my friends.) So..I drove to the AT&T store immediately after church (before I had time to change my mind) and told the guy I wanted to downgrade to a basic phone that would make and receive phonecalls--that's it.  No data. No texting. No Apps. And I will be saving about $80 a month. Ofcourse he asked me why I would be doing such a thing and when I told him, he smiled. Seems his wife just got back from a mission trip to the Ivory Coast. So it's done. Now I have to email all my friends & family and tell them that they cannot text me anymore (inconvenient) and that I cannot receive email on my phone anymore (annoying) but that it's a small price to pay in exchange for providing 3 kids with clean water, improved nutrition, basic healthcare and educational opportunities. Right? If you want to find out more about sponsoring a child, go to www.worldvision.org
Jake sponsors 10 year old Qiniso.

Will sponsors 8 year old Lindelwa.
Laine sponsors 3 year old Nomzamo.
