50 Shades of PINK!

I haven't Blogged all week and I could tell you that it's because my husband is traveling and I've been busy with the kids. Or I could tell you that we leave on our Spring Break trip to the beach tomorrow and I've been busy preparing for that. But...the truth is...I have been lost--hopelessly lost in a book. Oh this book!! Where do I begin? Well, I heard about it on Monday while driving to pick Will up from camp. I was listening to one of my favorite Podcasts, "For Crying Out Loud" and Lynette Corolla was interviewing Jill Zarin, a previous cast member of New York Housewives. Anyway, Jill said she was reading "50 Shades of Grey" by E L James and she couldn't get enough of it. She said it was extremely erotic and a real page-turner. She warned that it wasn't for the "meek" and that if you are someone who prefers lights off in the bedroom, this book isn't for you. But, she also said that if you have been married for many years and you could use a little "spice" in your love-life, then this book introduces some great ideas. She peaked my curiosity for sure. I am not a romance-novel kind of girl; I don't do Harlequin at all, so I was skeptic. But then Lynette went on to say that Dr. Drew Pinsky dedicated a whole hour to this book on his show the other night. He was outraged and appalled and felt that this book was degrading to women and making light of a real sickness that some people have in the world of Domination and S&M. But..he had a panel of women, including his wife whom had all read the book and LOVED it.  They absolutely loved it! Now my curiosity was really peaked. So..I started reading the iBook that night. I am embarrassed to admit that I stayed up until 3am reading. I could NOT put it down. And I cannot tell you how many times I blushed or said aloud, "Oh my!" It certainly isn't like anything I've ever read before. The writer, E L James is an Australian woman and I will admit--not the best writer. But, if you can stick with it, the writing gets much better after the first 2 chapters. The following day, Tuesday, I realized that I could not lay around all day reading with so much to do. But..I also could not get through my day without knowing what happened next in this addicting, fascinating tale. So..I downloaded the book on Audible and walked around the grocery store, the post office and the bank wearing my iPod and listening intently. NO book has ever had that kind of affect on me!! I finished book one last night and I felt exhausted and empty without the closure I needed. So..I began reading book 2, "50 Shades Darker." This is a trilogy and the final book is titled, "50 Shades Freed." Unfortunately book 2 and 3 are not available on Audio yet, so I wasn't able to walk around with my head-phones today. :( But..we leave for the beach tomorrow and I can assure you I will be pool-side, book in hand the entire time! I told my husband that I wanted him to read this book as well so that we are in synch with adding some spice to our lives. He told me that the bookstore at the airport was completely sold out, but he was lucky to find another shop with 2 copies left. He came home tonight--book in hand. ;) So ladies..I am encouraging you to grab a copy. If you are not too meek or mild and you could use a little spice--I think this is the prescription for you!! Enjoy! I am off to read...

  1. I am hopelessly hooked too! I'm going to have to pry the kindle out of my hands for Easter. Its too hard to focus on our Lord when I've got the scene from last night's pages stuck in my head! : )

  2. I'm reading it too!!! Your title to this post couldn't be more accurate!!!! That cracks me up that you walked around with it on your IPod!! I'm almost done with book two and I'm sure I'll start right in to book three! I've been hinting for Derek to read it... I"ll tell him Mark is and maybe that will convince him. :) I think Katie who posted above has a good point - probably should give it a rest till Monday! Hehe... Have a great time on your vacation!!

  3. Okay this is crazy. My 75 year old Dad just shared an article with me after dinner about a woman who apparently had an orgasm just from reading the books! I don't know which is more shocking...my Dad knowing about them or the excited reader! Lol.
